When a client relationship ends, you have two options for how to handle their record in Jetpack Workflow: moving them to inactive or deleting them entirely. These are very different actions with very different consequences, so it's worth understanding both before you proceed.
Inactive vs. Delete — Which Should I Choose?
| Inactive | Delete |
Client profile | Kept | Permanently removed |
Projects, tasks & notes | Kept | Permanently removed |
Time logs | Kept | Permanently removed |
Open projects | Closed/Stopped | Permanently removed |
Can be undone? | Yes - reactivate any time | No -cannot be undone |
In almost all cases, inactive is the right choice. It preserves your full history with the client while keeping them out of your active view. Delete should only be used when you're certain you'll never need that client's records again or you created a client by mistake.
Moving a Client to Inactive
Moving a client to inactive hides them from your default Clients page view and automatically closes any open projects they have. All their records — projects, tasks, notes, time logs — are kept and remain accessible if you need them later.
Before you start: Check whether the client has any open projects you want to action first, since they'll be automatically closed when the client goes inactive.
To move a client to inactive:
Go to the Clients page and open the client's profile
Hover over the client's current status
Select Inactive from the dropdown menu
The client will disappear from your default Clients view immediately. To find them again, filter the Clients page by Status → Inactive.
Reactivating an Inactive Client
If you need to bring a client back, it's straightforward - just reverse the process. Find the client by filtering for inactive clients, hover over their status, and switch it back to Active. Their profile and all historical records will be right where you left them.
Deleting a Client
⚠️ This action is permanent and cannot be undone. Deleting a client removes everything associated with them — their profile, all projects, tasks, comments, notes, and time logs. There is no way to recover this data. If there's any chance you'll need this client's records in the future, move them to inactive instead.
To delete a client:
Go to the Clients page and open the client's profile
Check for any open projects you may want to handle first — they will be permanently deleted along with the client
Click the three vertical dots next to the Edit Client button
Click Delete
Confirm by clicking Okay in the pop-up window
