How to Create a Template Custom Field

Written by Beatty W

Creating template custom fields

Template custom fields let you record extra details on your templates, such as Category. You create them in the Custom Fields tab on the Templates page.

Before you start

To create or manage template custom fields, you need the Custom Fields permission on the Template row. If you don't see the Custom Fields tab, ask your firm's admin to check your permissions.

Create a template custom field

  1. Go to the Templates tab and click the Custom Fields tab near the top of the screen. The Template Custom Fields tab opens and shows any existing custom fields.

  2. Click the blue New Custom Field button in the upper right corner. The menu changes so you can add your field details.

  3. Enter a name for your custom field.

  4. Pick a field type. If you pick a dropdown type, add the options you want in the dropdown menu.

  5. If the field is a Text Field, choose whether to mark it as sensitive.

  6. Click Create.

Field types

You can choose from these field types:

  • Text Field

  • Dropdown Single-Select

  • Dropdown Multi-Select

  • Pill Single-Select

  • Pill Multi-Select

  • Badge Single-Select

  • Badge Multi-Select

  • URL Link

  • Firm Member Single-Select

  • Firm Member Multi-Select

  • Date Picker

If you choose a dropdown type, you'll be prompted to add the options that appear in the dropdown menu.

Sensitive text fields

You can mark a Text Field as sensitive. A sensitive field's value is masked on the template's page, with an option to reveal it.

The sensitive option isn't available for dropdown field types.

Using your custom field

Once you create a field, you can edit it on any template's page. In the Library table, you can also add it as a column, filter by it, and double-click a cell to edit its value. For more on the Library table, see the Templates Library article
